Fancy a hand with the laundry?

The start of a new school year can be exciting, but it can also be a headache with all the added laundry you have to do. So we've put together a little guide to explain some of the common wash care symbols you'll find in your uniform.

Wash Symbol

Depicted as a bucket filled with water, the Wash Symbol tells you what temperature or machine setting you should use to wash the item of clothing. The number is the maximum temperature you should set your machine to. If there is a hand in this symbol it means you should hand wash this garment. The lines underneath indicate how delicate the wash cycle should be.

Triangle

An empty triangle means you can use bleach on this garment, but often in uniform the traingle will have a cross through it - this means you shouldn't use bleach or any detergents with bleach in.

Circle in Square

This demonstrates if a garment can be dried in a tumble dryer. One dot means lower temperature, two dots mean higher temperature.

Iron with dots

The dots on ironing symbols correspond to the dots on an iron's temperature settings: the more dots there are, the more heat can be applied. If there is a cross through the iron - it means do not iron.

Circle

This is about dry cleaning. If there is a cross through it - this means do not dry clean. Sometimes there are letters in this symbol, this indicates to your dry cleaner the type of chemicals to use.
