Invest in a quality uniform by buying from Trutex

We’ve said this before, but we’ll say it again, at Trutex we pride ourselves on providing school uniforms that are made to last – it’s at the heart of everything we do. You’ll see our ‘Made to Last’ motto all over our website – quality is so important to us so you don’t have to worry about replacing your children’s uniform very often.

With the rising cost of living affecting families, it’s more important than ever that items of school uniform stand the test of time and the rough and tumble of the school playground.

So how do we go about making sure that your children are wearing uniform that’s made to last?

Throughout our design and manufacturing process quality and durability are key. We apply attention to detail to make sure our uniforms stand the test of time.

Fabric that performs

It’s really important to get the right fabric to give school uniform longevity. When we’re sourcing fabrics, we look for and choose high quality, durable materials, tailored to each of our school uniform products.

Our trousers are made using Teflon Eco-Elite® stain resistant fabric, making it harder for marks and stains to set in, while our sweatshirts are made from low bobble material, meaning they stay looking smart after multiple wears and washes.

For all our uniform items, we always look for the colour fastness of a fabric, how easy it is to wash, and whether it can stand up to the daily demands of school life.

Construction

Comprehensive quality control checks are in place to give you school uniforms that perform incredibly well for your child.

We put a lot of detail into our uniforms to make sure they’re made to the best possible standards. Some of these features include:

  • Strengthened seams on shirts
  • Heat-pressed pleats on trousers
  • Hidden waist adjusters
  • Elasticated collars and cuffs

We test each of our garments rigorously, for example our blazers are made to stand up to carrying heavy back packs.

Independent tests demonstrated our polo shirts had 100% less shrinkage after wash and tumble dry when compared to high street and supermarket brands and our boys school trousers are 100% stronger than competitors.

A proper fit

We want to make sure every child feels comfortable and looks smart, whatever their age, size or gender. All our garments are designed to fit students appropriately, including specific tailoring for senior girls’ skirts, trousers and blouses and unisex options for children of all ages. When an item of clothing fits properly, it lasts longer.

We provide handy size guides for all your school uniform needs, so if you’re unsure about your growing kids’ size for any item, just visit our size guide page. There’s even an easy print-at-home measuring tape in case you don’t have one. We also have our sizer app, My Size ID, a simple and quick way to calculate what size you need to buy using only two measurements – your child’s height and weight.

Finally here’s a quick checklist for you to determine good quality when you’re shopping for your children’s uniform:

  • Are seams straight and robust – try pulling lightly around cuffs – does the stitching hold without gaps?
  • How does the fabric feel? Is it robust to touch?
  • Does the fabric pattern match up at the seams?
  • Are there any special finished – such as non-iron / permanent creases?
  • Do hems look straight and well-stitched?
  • Do the waist bands of trousers feel substantial and comfortable – are there adjusters, is the inside tailored nicely?
  • Are pockets straight and stitched with extra thread on trousers?
  • Do shirts include extra panels between the shoulders or down the front panel (placket? This will help give better performance over time.
  • Does the blazer or shirt come with extra buttons?
  • Do labels have country of origin and care instructions?

We’re proud to say our uniforms are often grown out of before they’ve worn out. Parents tell us they’re able to pass uniform from one sibling to another or give them a second life by donating to charity or their school’s second-hand uniform shop.
