Our history

Date Description
1865 Opened as the Clitheroe Shirting Company, based in Grindleton, Lancashire producing fabrics.
1920 Weaving ceased and gave way to garment manufacturing.
1965 The name of the company was changed to Trutex Limited.
1974 Trutex Limited became part of the Tootal Group. Still based in Grindleton.
1984 Trutex divided into Trutex Schoolwear Ltd and Trutex Casualwear Ltd
1991 Tootal (and therefore the Trutex companies) became part of the Coats Viyella Group
1995 Trutex are involved in a Management buyout and became part of the newly formed Vermilion plc. Other companies in the group include Vermilion Corporatewear, a corporate clothing specialist.
1997 Trutex are accredited as Investors in People.
1998 Trutex launch new corporate identity.
2000 Trutex renamed Trutex plc after the disposal of Vermilion Corporatewear is to Rainbow Corporatewear.
2002 Trutex launch new web site featuring an e-commerce service for customers of their School Link scheme.
2003 Trutex launch a new range of basic garments that compliment the premium brands within the Trutex ranges. 
School Link changes its name to Trutex Direct
2005 Trutex are involved in a Management buyout.
2006 Trutex build a new web solution for both Trutex Direct and our Retailers.
